A job through my blog???

I've been quite irregular in checking the email id mentioned in the blog. Even more so in the recent few days, as there's a ton of housekeeping work i had to do after reaching Chicago. And there's so much catching-up-with-buddies to do. After a week - I'm king of breathing easy.

I was thinking of the mails since yesterday and today morning i was motivated to follow up on all the mails. Among the pile, i find this one mail from a certain feedcompany. They are part of a recruiting initiative currently underway at Deloitte - Born2Consult.

So the deal is that i share this video (it is quite funny - take a look) and feedcompany would forward my resume to Deloitte. Quite neat eh! Many things have happened to me through the blog - finding a job was something I'd have never thought about. Blogging does give something back, apart from the pure pleasure of writing :)

Enjoy the video and wish me luck...

Der Feeder

Alright. I was asked to add the RSS Feeder for the blog.

I guess i am spoilt with the sophisticated live bookmarking available in Firefox 3. Seriously, you guys need to upgrade to this wonder browser. It just makes web-life SO simple :)

Nevertheless - I've added the RSS feed tool on the Right side pane.

The move to the "other" side

It's finally happened...
I moved my blog from the applicants list to the students list at hella's website!
Been planning to do this for quite some time, as i see posts from a new group of applicant bloggers and my posts about matriculation et al were standing oddly out amidst their posts!

This change kind of makes me feel that the cycle is now complete in all sense - from applicant to student :) I do see fellow applicant bloggers on the other side, people who've tracked and followed each other's progress, success and failures and people who've exchanged information and advices with so much mutual goodwill, as if all of us grew up in the same locality. It is definitely a very good feeling to see them there :)

So, here's to my new "student" status...
Now, if only school would begin soon ;)

Happy birthday blog

One year since i started writing this blog.

What started as a online journal to kill boredom after my CAT 2005 preps has turned into a place that has been with me through the CAT failure, the resultant decisions i took, the GMAT preps, MBA apps and everything else. In the process, it has also brought many new people into my life - all these ppl i hope to meet some day, either in the school i get into or during an inter school meet of some kind :)

Anyway - the blog has given me much more than what i'd hope for and i hope by the second birthday of this blog, i wud have moved out of applicant mode and into student mode.

Something has changed :)

Okay - i was bored of checking the status of all applications. Nothing had changed to anything. So i thought i would change something that i can change.

Hence, the new template :)
And hey - don't forget to shoot your feedback :D

100 posts later...

Yeah - this is my hundredth post in the blog. Boy - it's been such a ride.

I began this blog much in boredom. This was during mid December 2005, when i was bored about almost everything in life. Job was boring, the happenings at the company were frustrating (to put it mildly), I had just finished a "i-might-i-might-not" CAT and was missing the company of a good friend who was in Singapore (and/or Malaysia) on her Honeymoon trip and would soon move out of Chennai. Life was going nowhere and it was a period of time when i was doing nothing that was interesting. Probably the best thing i did those days was seeing all those DVDs.

So - i started this blog as a complete loser. Over the past few months, i have lost many and achieved some. My CAT score was a big disappointment. SPJain dint call. XAT was a whisker away from a BM call. Work was still boring. And that's all about the losses.

The gains are great. I started to live my life the way i wanted to live my life. I realized that i cud not offer the kind of dedication required for CAT preps. I decided to look beyond IIMs. Today i am done with my GMAT and right in the middle of my MBA apps. Though i failed in CAT, the process gave me some friends. I closely followed two people who had their interviews with Indian Bschools and i got to know more of the process. I also did something extremely close to my heart - i joined a dance school and performed on stage. I earned some friends there too.

The GMAT process and the MBA apping journey has not been any less beneficial. I have crossed the hurdle called GMAT with really good figures. I am aspiring high with my apps. Every day, i do a lot of things i like, i learn something more and i am eager to wake up every morning. There is such a contrast between the time i started this blog and now. There is no more dull moment in my day.

I am the kind of person who likes to be busy always and these days, i am just that - busy. Always busy. Been so since i started my GMAT preps and i am not tired of it. I get the feeling that i am made for this and hence i am thoroughly enjoying the process.

Looking at the future - i only hope that the run continues. By the time i get to 200 posts, which i think will take close to 4 months, i hope to be done with the apping process for good and be writing abt the things on the way to my B school.

Till then, the journey continues...

Some more tinkering with the blog...

I was not happy with the dull grey look. Even the last time when i had to settle on it coz of lack of time, i decided to myself that I'll work on it sometime in the future. So - today is that future, and i have nothing to do as well. So i decided I'd spend some time working on the blog in trying to make it appear better. I hope it is better after those hours i put in.

To start with, i thought I'd use a completely new theme. I found this one which i think is very good. The author has many more templates, you can find here. But due to my lack of skill with web designing et al, i was not able to get the css stuff to work with this xhtml page. I spent some tome attempting to get it working, but i wasn't getting any of the formatting i was doing. So i said "Ditch it" and decided to work on the template i had, and change it in a way i liked. That's what has lead to this new color scheme and all.

The background and color change was simple. I still had to search the net for html color codes (yeah!!! I'm that bad) to get that exact color i wanted. For sometime, i was like "Jo" in the rmkv ad :) Once i got the color, i then had to get a pic to place on top of the blog. This was the interesting business.

I wanted the color of the pic to match with the color of the headers. Since I'm not one of these ppl who'd say "I'll get a pic and changes the color of the blog to match it", i searched some time to see if i can get a pic that matched this color. No!!!

So, i decided to use something i found in the site i mentioned above, and modify it to suit my needs. First i did some work in mspaint to shape it. Then i used this free pic editor called "irphan viewer" and applied some effects on the pic. First i adjusted the color shades to change the hue of the blue to match the color in the blog. Then i applied the "sharpness" filter on it some 3 times, this made the pic full of lines of diff color. Then i applied the "explosion" filter on it, which lead to this. Pretty simple huh??? Pain in the ass... I'm sure there are better ways to go abt this, but this is all the knowledge i have :(

Now - all work done and i guess the blog looks a lot more brighter and appealing. The grey one was all dull and boring. What say ppl???

Some tinkering with the blog...

I was getting bored with the look and feel of the blog. More importantly - i thought that a 3 column layout was what i wanted. So i did some digging and found a template on this site. I was not completely happy with it, but it was pretty close to what i wanted.

So i got the template, spent many hours on trying to figure out the various "Blog code" terminologies and did changes in the original template. This is what I've ended up with.

Half way thru the work, my friend commented that the blog was not easy on the eyes. It had a lighter background then. It also had white colored links. I have changed these stuff and probably some more i don't remember. Needless to say, this is one of the complex html stuff I've ever done ;)

So yeah, blog gets a face lift and I'm open to all kinds of comments and feedbacks :)
